Rafe Esquith
Teach Like Your Hair's on Fire

Sunday evening’s keynoter, Rafe Esquith, is an award winning teacher and author of There Are No Shortcuts:  Changing the World One Kid at a Time and Teach Like Your Hair’s on Fire.  For the past 25 years, Esquith has taught fifth graders at Hobart Elementary in central Los Angeles.  He and his Hobart Shakespeareans were the feature of a PBS documentary and are world famous for the rock opera they create every year.  Esquith’s teaching awards include the Disney American Teacher Award, Oprah Winfrey’s Use Your Life Award and the president’s National Medal of Arts.  More information on Rafe Esquith and his students can be found at http://www.hobartshakespeareans.org/.

Dr. Douglas Reeves
Founder, Center for Performance Assessment
Leadership at Every Level: Making a Difference from the Board Room to the Classroom

Dr. Doug Reeves, chairman and founder of the Center for Performance Assessment, will be the Tuesday morning keynoter.  Dr. Reeves is the author of more than 20 books including the best-selling Making Standards Work and The Learning Leader.  Dr. Reeves has twice been selected for the Harvard Distinguished Authors Series and won the Parent’s Choice Award for his writing for parents and children.   In 2006, Dr. Reeves was named the Brock International Laureate, one of the most significant education awards in the world.  His work appears in numerous national publications, including a monthly column in Educational Leadership.  Beyond his work in large-scale assessment and research, Dr. Reeves has devoted many years to classroom teaching from elementary school to doctoral candidates.  More information on Doug Reeves can be found at www.makingstandardswork.com
